A recently conducted report has revealed that the demand for electric vehicles has increased amid high fuel prices and increasing pollution.

Delhi the national capital and one of the Tier 1 cities witnessed the maximum demand for EVs mainly including e-Scooters and e-Cars. Tier-1 cities are the first to adopt this transition. The government’s initiative for renewable and cleaner energy is also the reason behind this skyrocketing demand.

According to Just Dial Consumer Insights, e-scooters have recorded the highest year-on-year increase in demand of around 220.7 percent. The e-cars, emotorcyles, and e-cycles demand jumped at 132.4, 115.3, and 66.8 percent respectively.

In Tier-1 cities, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru recorded the highest increase in demand for e-scooters. Apart from, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and Kolkata are also among the cities that witnessed a significant increase in demand for e-scooters.

Aside from, there are also some other cities in the list when it comes to high demand for e-cars; Lucknow, Nashik, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Vijayawada, Goa, and Visakhapatnam are also to name a few.

When it comes to e-motorcycles, the trend was different. Here, Tier 2 cities overtook the cities in Tier 1. In common words, Tier 2 cities saw a higher increase in demand for e-motorcycles than Tier 1 cities. These cities are Surat, Rajkot, Nagpur, Amravati, Vijaywada, Salem, Pondicherry, Kolhapur, Bhavnagar, and Varanasi. While, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru were among the Tier 1 cities with maximum demand for e-motorcycles.

Electric bicycles noticed the most demand from metro cities, especially Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. In the case of Tier 2 cities, Surat, Rajkot, Amravati, Patna, Nagpur, Vijaywada, Salem, Kolhapur, Madurai are among the top cities.

What is the impact of this skyrocketing increase in demand for e-vehicles on the Automobile industry?

According to Prasun Kumar, Chief Marketing Officer at Just Dial, “It is extremely encouraging to see the recent surge in electric vehicles, which can be taken as a build-up to tackle the concerning pollution levels in the capital and the nation at large, as well as the impending threat of climate change. With the lessons taken from COP26, it is evident that the world would need a strong and sustainable infrastructure to breathe cleaner air.”

In the report, it was also revealed that the luxury segment also noticed a spike in demand. And some market leaders like Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche witnessed a surge in demand. Among these, people searched Bugatti the most and it also saw around 167 percent rise in demand in this festive season mainly from Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Pune. It was followed by Porsche with year-on-year demand growth of 64 percent; majorly by Delhi and Pune in Tier 1 cities. While Chandigarh, Nagpur, Guntur tops the demand in Tier-II cities.

Apart from that, Ferrari recorded the next with 51 percent demand; most of them were from Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. The demand for Lamborghini also increased by 21 percent especially from the cities Mumbai and Delhi.
