New Delhi, January 18, 2019 : Japanese Carmaker Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) on Friday announced the launch of new Camry at Rs 36.95 lakh (ex-showroom) due to the high 48 per cent GST that is applicable to Hybrid cars in India.
The new Toyota Camry will be the eighth generation of the car worldwide and the 4th generation for the entry level luxury sedan in the country. Camry will compete against the likes of Skoda Superb and the Honda Accord hybrid. The company pronounce it as self charging hybrid electric vehicle.
Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director, TKM Said, "Globally we have been the pioneers in hybrid technology and this has been an important focus us in a market like India which is moving towards greener, sustainable future. The launch of all new Camry restores this focus."
Toyota has sold over 11425 units of Camry since 2002 in India. The new Camry is based on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) modular platform that is also shared by Lexus ES sedan in India.
N Raja, Deputy Managing Director, TKM Said, "Toyota Camry proudly stand tall as one of the world's most popular passenger cars, this continuing success globally as well as in India has encouraged us to introduce enhance all new Camry hybrid electric vehicle."
On the design from, Toyota Camry comes with lower grille with glossy black slates and a sleek upper grille embossing Toyota logo. It also boast multi-spoke alloy wheels, ORVMs and LED tail lamps.
The new generation of the Camry now gets a new touchscreen display and a new infotainment system which comes with android auto and apple carplay. On the engine side, Camry will get a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 116 bhp electric motor.
