Automobile sellers lobby board Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA) has penned to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray urging that automobile showrooms be permitted to function with half workforce in the state to let deliveries in the forthcoming festivals of Gudi Padwa, Navratri, Ram Navami.
With 2,700 sales branches, Maharashtra records 10% of all vehicles retailed in the country. The Maharashtra govt on weekend declared shutting down of all outlets in the state, excluding those giving necessary facilities, till month end to examine the sudden spread of Covid-19 cases in the public.
“The festivals of Gudi Padwa, Ram Navmi and Navratri are traditionally when people take delivery of their new vehicles. We request to be allowed to operate with 50% staff in Showrooms to cater to these deliveries”, Amar Sheth, state chairperson (Maharashtra), FADA has penned in a letter dated as April 5, 2021.
FADA has held these supplementary vehicles on the move will also support in personal mobility and again decrease the danger of outspread and burden on public transport. The letter further stated that, “In an automobile showroom the space is large and social distancing norms can very easily be enforced as there is no crowding or queues.”
The association also promised to immunize the 5 lakh individuals working, directly and indirectly, by the automobile delivery industry in the state.
