2021 is the year of far-fetched advancement in the Electric Vehicle ecosystem on many fronts. Singapore is at the vanguard of vehicle electrification in the ASEAN region, setting a zero hour to curtail petrol and diesel vehicles prior to 2040. In other parts of Asia, Thailand’s government exposed fresh tax deductions for electric vehicle producers while Malaysia is amending its Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint to be legalized at the nationwide level, and China, the world's chief EV market, is manufacturing a significant recoil with EV sales greater than doubling up in 2020. However, responsibilities such as appealing ‘big brothers’ to finance and localize, generating a sustainable EV supply chain, ensuring infrastructure readiness, refining consumer outlook and encourage adoption of EVs remains.
